Oil prices drop 4% as supply concerns ease

Oil prices fell at the close of trading today, Feb. 2, after US President Donald Trump said Iran was having "serious talks" with Washington, easing concerns about disruption to global supplies in the event of a military confrontation.

Brent crude futures for April delivery fell 4.36%, or $3.02, to $66.30 a barrel. WTI crude oil futures for March delivery also fell by 4.71%, or $3.07, to $62.14 a barrel.

US and Iranian officials told Reuters that the two sides will resume nuclear talks on Friday, after Trump told reporters last week that Tehran was "holding serious talks".

Oil prices came under additional pressure due to forecasts of improved weather conditions in America, along with a stronger dollar following Trump's nomination of former Federal Reserve member Kevin Warsh to head the bank.
