US inflation rose in April, driven by higher oil prices amid the US-Iran trade war, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed to its highest level since September 2023, fueled by a 17.9% increase in energy prices during April, with gasoline prices surging 28.4% year-on-year (YoY).

Importance: This data could push the Federal Reserve to hold interest rates high for a longer period, given the repercussions of the war and rising energy prices, which could increase pressure on the US economy.
