Cabinet ratifies GCC rail link pact, amends water plant regs

The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, approved the implementation of the GCC Supreme Council’s resolution to adopt the general agreement linking GCC member states through a regional railway project.

The Cabinet also approved executive regulations for the law protecting whistleblowers, witnesses, experts, and victims, the Saudi Press Agency(SPA) reported.

Other decisions included ratifying amendments to the regulatory framework governing water factories.

Furthermore, the Cabinet marked the full operation of the main stations of the Riyadh Metro project as an extension of the rapid progress within the capital city's public transport system. It noted that the project embodies the development of an integrated urban infrastructure that improves quality of life, diversifies transit options, and boosts reliance on and the efficiency of public transport in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

According to Argaam data, the GCC railway network is planned to span 2,186 kilometers, starting in Kuwait and passing through Dammam in Saudi Arabia, connecting Bahrain via a planned bridge. The route will then continue from Dammam to Qatar, the UAE, and finally reach Muscat via Sohar in Oman
