US retail sales rose during May

US retail sales rose more than expected in May, as gasoline prices surged due to energy disruptions stemming from the Middle East conflict, according to official data released today.
The data showed retail sales increased 0.9% month-on-month (MoM), exceeding expectations of 0.5%, while April's retail sales figure was revised down to 0.4% growth from the initial estimate of 0.5%.
