REDF launches index to track Saudi citizens’ readiness to own first home

REDF says the index will support decision-making and contribute to the development of housing policies in line with Saudi Vision 20230

The Real Estate Development Fund (REDF) launched first Homeownership Readiness Index (HRI), a new national index that aims to track the readiness of Saudi citizens to own their first home.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the index will be issued quarterly to provide a forward-looking measure of consumer confidence in the housing market by assessing four key factors influencing the homeownership decision: the desire to purchase a home, confidence in obtaining financing, ease of access to housing finance, and readiness to provide a down payment.

The index - the first of its kind in the Kingdom - provides insights into citizens’ aspirations and confidence, as well as the challenges they face during first-time homeownership.

The index supports decision-making, contributes to the development of housing policies, promotes innovation in financing solutions, and strengthens the housing finance ecosystem in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The index provides a unified tool for measuring citizens’ readiness to own their first home across the Kingdom, said REDF chief executive officer Loaye Al-Nahedh.

He added that the index’s quarterly publication will enable a better understanding of the changing needs of beneficiaries, as well as the challenges facing prospective homeowners. This will enable REDF, together with its partners in the housing ecosystem, to develop enhanced solutions that support continued progress toward achieving the objectives of Vision 2030.

The REDF said the first edition of the index represents the national baseline against which future editions will be measured. Subsequent quarterly reports will track developments in homeownership readiness levels, as well as providing policymakers, financing institutions, and real estate developers with early indicators of market confidence and emerging trends.
