Gold settles at over two-month high

Gold rises ahead of US inflation data, with markets scaling back Fed rate-hike expectations

Gold prices rose on Wednesday, with the most-active contract closing at its highest level since June 4, after fresh signs of easing inflationary pressures in the US.

US consumer price inflation slowed to 3.4% in July, in line with expectations, while core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, eased to 2.5%.

The data boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged next month, while bets on a rate hike declined, supporting gold and other precious metals.
