US producer price inflation slows to 4.7% in July

The US producer price index (PPI) slowed to 4.7% year-on-year (YoY) in July, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

On a monthly basis, the index was unchanged, as energy prices fell 3.1%, led by a 5.7% decline in gasoline prices, while prices for vehicles and equipment rose 0.3%.

The data point to a partial easing in producer-level inflationary pressures last month, although they remain elevated, meaning some of these pressures could be passed on to consumers in the coming months.
