Bitcoin jumps over 7%, heads for biggest weekly gain in over 3 years

Cryptocurrency prices extended their gains today, Aug. 21, with Bitcoin nearing $78,000 and heading for its biggest weekly gain in more than three years.
Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market value, has gained around 23.73% so far this week, putting it on track for its biggest weekly advance since March 2023.
Cryptocurrency markets were supported this week after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a doubling of the cap on long-term bond buyback operations.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump urged the Senate to pass a bill aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency market, which stalled due to disagreements and was not brought to a vote before the chamber began its recess this month.
