Al Rumayyan: Strong governance builds trust, lures private capital

PIF Governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan said investors look beyond financial performance to assess the quality of governance and decision-making.

Strong governance builds trust and directly supports the Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) ambition to attract private capital while enhancing companies’ sustainability and investment appeal, PIF Governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, said.

Speaking at the PIF Directors Gathering, Al Rumayyan noted that governance quality is not separate from investment appeal, but rather it’s an integral part, noting that investors look beyond financial performance to assess the quality of governance and decision-making.

He added that three advantages could help empower PIF companies if used more systematically: the strength of the fund’s partnerships, the insights provided by its data, and the governance capabilities it has built.

He further indicated that PIF’s commitment to good governance is reflected in the Center of Governance and its role in supporting institutional capabilities. The fund established the center to translate its governance ambitions into tangible impact within company boards.

Al Rumayyan said that since its establishment in 2020, the center has evolved into a platform for governance knowledge, capacity building and thought leadership in the Kingdom and the region.
