US producer price inflation accelerates in August

US producer prices accelerated in August, in line with the average analyst estimate, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed.

The increase was driven in part by a 4.2% rise in energy prices, while services prices increased 0.1%. Diesel prices led the gains, rising 24.1%.

The data could add to inflationary pressures at the wholesale level and influence the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path.
