US jobless claims fall to lowest level since July


Initial claims for unemployment benefits in the US edged lower in the week ended Sept. 12, falling below 200,000 to their lowest level since July.

 

New filings fell to 196,000 from an unrevised 206,000 in the prior week, coming in below market forecasts of 207,000, according to US Department of Labor data released today, Sept. 17.

 

Weekly jobless claims serve as a proxy for layoffs and offer near-real-time insights into broader labor market conditions across the US economy.
