Gold prices rise as dollar holds steady

Gold prices rise in volatile trading as the dollar holds steady and markets assess the outlook for Fed policy and US-Iran diplomacy
Gold prices rose in volatile Thursday trading amid uncertainty over market expectations for Federal Reserve policy, as well as unclear prospects for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of six major currencies, held steady at 101.08.
Lower oil prices provided some support, with crude prices declining after Tehran signaled its willingness to pursue diplomacy to end the US-Iran conflict, despite continued differences between the two sides over how to achieve this, Reuters reported.
