The Public Investment Fund (PIF) confirmed that 2026 would be the final season funding the team-based tour, Al-Eqtisadiah reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund is reassessing its investment in LIV Golf, as it no longer aligns with its current strategy, which is focused on long-term returns. The move reflects a broader shift in investment priorities amid the current economic transformation.
Sources said LIV Golf has delivered a meaningful turnaround since its launch and supported the global expansion of the sport. They added that periodic investment assessments are a standard practice, with investors typically adjusting positions when return targets are not met.
PIF will continue to deploy capital domestically and internationally in line with its strategy, including in priority sectors such as sports, the sources said.
The fund has backed LIV Golf since its launch in 2022 and signed a framework agreement with the PGA Tour in June 2023 to unify the sport.
Separately, LIV Golf said, on April 30, that its board had formed an independent committee to evaluate strategic alternatives for its future beyond PIF's funding horizon.
