SoftBank is nearing a deal to acquire Japanese payments services provider SP.LINKSby acquiring the stakes held by Blackstone and Sony Financial Group, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg.
The sources indicated that Blackstone intends to sell its 80% stake in the company to SoftBank, while Sony Financial's banking arm is preparing to sell its remaining 20% stake. This would make SP.LINKS a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Blackstone acquired an 80% stake in the Japanese payments company for ¥40 billion (approximately $245 million) in January 2024, when the company was known as Sony Payment Services, before later renaming it SP.LINKS.
