Saudi Arabia aims for deeper, more competitive financial sector: Al-Jadaan

Saudi Arabia’s Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan said the Kingdom has a clear direction toward a deeper and more competitive financial sector that keeps pace with the development of the country’s economy, empowers the private sector, and attracts capital.

As Vision 2030 enters its third phase — focused on maximizing impact — the emphasis is shifting toward sustaining the impact of the transformation, capitalizing on new growth opportunities, and translating their impact into more efficient markets, capital flowing toward opportunities, and a private sector better equipped to grow and compete, he added.

Speaking at the opening of the Money20/20 Middle East conference in Riyadh, the minister said the Saudi financial sector has demonstrated clear resilience amid recent geopolitical and economic tensions, supported by robust regulatory and institutional frameworks and strong capital and liquidity positions.

“The Kingdom will continue working to strengthen the investment environment and expand financing channels,” said Al-Jadaan. He noted that Vision 2030 has contributed to broadening financing and investment channels, while providing a more flexible regulatory environment for the fintech sector.

Al-Jadaan also emphasized that the inclusion of Saudi government’s riyal-denominated sukuk in emerging-market indices reflects the significant development of local debt markets, strengthens their global presence, and broadens the investor base.

Saudi Arabia seeks to enable private sector growth and make it increasingly compete, which, in turn, will enhance its role in the economy and support the Kingdom’s economic transformation, he said.
