Saudi Arabia’s stock market will see FTSE Russell’s periodic changes to Saudi equities implemented today, June 18, following the results of its quarterly index review. The changes will take effect on June 22.

The changes are scheduled to be executed during the closing auction and closing price trading sessions, in line with the requirements of global index managers. This period typically witnesses notable activity in trading values and volumes for the stocks affected by the changes, driven by orders from funds and portfolios tracking these indices.

The changes include the addition of four Saudi companies to the Microcap Index and the Global All Cap Index: Alramz Real Estate, Almasar Alshamil, Cherry, and CGS.

The changes come as part of FTSE Russell’s periodic reviews of its global indices, aimed at reflecting changes in company sizes, liquidity, free float, and eligibility criteria adopted by the indices.

Global index reviews are closely monitored by investors due to their potential impact on trading activity in the affected stocks, particularly during the implementation session and closing auction, as funds and portfolios linked to these indices rebalance their investment positions based on the new changes.

Why are global index changes important?

Global index reviews typically affect trading activity in the affected stocks, especially on the implementation date, as funds and portfolios tracking these indices rebalance their investment positions in line with the new changes.

An addition or removal from an index does not necessarily reflect a change in a company’s fundamentals, as index providers base their decisions on criteria including market capitalization, liquidity, free float, and each index’s eligibility requirements.

The trading impact of index reviews is usually concentrated on the implementation date, particularly during the closing auction and closing price trading, while the official inclusion in the indices begins on the effective date set by the index provider.
