Home loans to individuals down 50% to SAR 4.2B in March: SAMA

Residential mortgages granted to individuals by banks in Saudi Arabia retreated 50% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 4.19 billion in March 2026, marking the lowest mortgage amount granted in Saudi Arabia since April 2023 (SAR 4.15 billion).
According to data issued by SAMA, 6,400 contracts were concluded between banks and individuals in March.
The average value of new residential mortgages declined by 13% YoY to SAR 655,000 during the same month.
Financing for residential villas accounted for the largest share of the total mortgages provided by banks, with a value of SAR 2.61 billion (62%).
Residential apartments came in second place with SAR 1.29 billion, while land plots reached approximately SAR 280 million.
